The government has announced a  month long drive called “GST Bachat Utsav”, starting from 22 September and will be continuing till 21 October 2025. The aim of the campaign is to highlight the benefits of the new GST reforms and show how people can save money in daily shopping.

The GST system is being simplified after years of debate. From 22 September, India will move from multiple complicated tax slabs to a much simpler system. Most goods and services will now be either 5% or 18%. Luxury or harmful goods will be having a special rate of 40% , while many essentials will either become tax free or taxed at a very low rate .

Items like milk, curd, paneer, butter, ghee, and cheese will now either have no GST or a much lower rate. Everyday breads like roti, paratha and even pizza bases will become tax free. Toiletries, personal care products and some packaged foods will also cost less. On top of that, life and health insurance policies will no longer attract GST, making them cheaper and encouraging more families to get insured.

During the GST Bachat Utsav, shops will be displaying a special “GST Bachat Pack” label on products where tax savings are being passed on. Even goods that were printed with old MRPs can show revised lower prices, so customers know they are not being overcharged. To make sure everyone understands the changes, the government will also run awareness campaigns and outreach programmes across the country.

For households struggling with rising expenses , this announcement is being seen as a relief. Families will now be able to save a little more on their groceries, personal care items and even on health coverage. Small businesses and shopkeepers too will benefit from simpler tax compliance.

The GST Bachat Utsav is not just about reforms in taxation but is being projected as a true festival of savings, meant to bring smiles to ordinary people as they prepare for the festive season ahead.
