Fresh friction between Governors and elected governments surfaced in Tamil Nadu and Kerala on Tuesday (20 January) as disputes over constitutional addresses dominated the opening of the year’s first Assembly sessions in both States.
A delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), led by Vice-Minister Sun Haiyan, on Tuesday (January 13, 2026) met RashtriyaSwayamsewakSangh (RSS) general secretary DattatreyaHosabale in New Delhi.
A day after inducting the PMK into the alliance, the seat-sharing talks in the NDA seems to have hit a roadblock. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s visit to Delhi to call on the top BJP leaders has turned into a damp squib. BJP’s demand for 56 seats out of the total 234 constituencies and share in power seems to have irked the AIADMK camp.
In a political converging point that happens rarely, both the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have received the recent Supreme Court order on the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) with open arms, terming it as a “victory of the rural poor” and a “reminder of the government’s responsibility to its people.
Never losing an opportunity of describing itself as “a party with a difference”, BJP leadership in Bihar has travelled the same path as the political outfits it seeks to distance itself from after it fielded Maithili Thakur at Alinagar seat. Thus it has set aside the claims of veterans by opting for Thakur, a singer, whose voice is one of the most recognisable in the digital age.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced the second phase of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, a process meant to verify and update voter lists by adding new voters and deleting ineligible ones.
Jharkhand’s ruling JMM announced that it would not contest the assembly elections in neighbouring Bihar, claiming that the decision was taken in the wake of a “political conspiracy” by its allies RJD and Congress, which deprived it of seats as part of the Mahagathbandhan.
After flocking in droves to a meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union home minister Amit Shah and making a beeline for the podium, it seems the good times are over for these BJP leaders of West Bengal. No longer can they afford to be conspicuous by their absence at the house of a slain party activist or a vandalised saffron camp unit, post a directive from BJP’s central observer for West Bengal, Bhupendra Yadav.
In a sweeping move ahead of the anticipated Cabinet reshuffle, all Ministers in the Bhupendra Patel-led Gujarat government tendered their resignations on Thursday (October 16, 2025), clearing the way for a new team to be sworn today. The existing council of Ministers, which had 17 members, is likely to be expanded to 22 or 23, with several new faces expected to join the Cabinet. Nearly half of the current Ministers may be replaced in what is being described as one of the most significant reshuffles of Mr. Patel’s tenure.
