Under the strict oversight of the Supreme Court, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is finalizing the list for West Bengal’s electoral future. Set for publication this Saturday, February 28, 2026, the updated roll for over 7 crore citizens will move beyond a simple list of names, instead acting as a high-stakes clearance ledger. By segregating every entry into Approved, Deleted, or Adjudication status, the Commission is effectively filtering the state’s massive voter base through a judicial sieve to resolve “trust deficits” and technical discrepancies identified during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Following an extraordinary mandate that saw over 500 judicial officers take over the verification of “unmapped” voters, the ECI’s February 28 release serves as the primary gateway to the 2026 Assembly polls. While the “Approved” tag grants immediate access to the ballot, the “Adjudication” label acts as a temporary barrier for roughly 60 lakh individuals whose eligibility remains under the lens of presiding judges.
To ensure no eligible citizen is permanently locked out, the Commission has committed to a “continuous gate” policy, where supplementary lists will be issued to move verified names from the waiting room of adjudication to the final roll right up until the point of candidate nominations.
