The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) has officially announced the schedule for the annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir. Chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the board confirmed that the Yatra will commence on July 3, 2026, and conclude on August 28, 2026, coinciding with the auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan.

Extended Duration and Key Dates

This year’s pilgrimage will span a total of 57 days, slightly longer than previous years, offering more devotees the opportunity to perform darshan of the naturally formed ice stalagmite. The religious proceedings will begin with the ‘Pratham Puja’ on June 19 (Jyeshtha Purnima), seeking divine blessings for a smooth and safe journey for all pilgrims.

Registration and Eligibility

The registration process for the 2026 Yatra is set to begin nationwide on April 15, 2026. Prospective pilgrims can secure their permits through both online and offline modes:

Offline: Available at 556 designated bank branches, including SBI, PNB, Jammu & Kashmir Bank, and Yes Bank.

Online: Devotees can register via the official website of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) or the dedicated mobile app.

In accordance with safety protocols, only individuals between the ages of 13 and 70 are permitted to undertake the trek. Furthermore, women who are more than six weeks pregnant are advised against the journey. A Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC), issued by authorized doctors on or after April 8, is mandatory for all applicants.

Enhanced Safety and Infrastructure

The administration has introduced several measures to bolster security and comfort. RFID tracking cards will be mandatory for all yatris to ensure real-time monitoring. Additionally, the group accidental insurance cover for pilgrims and service providers has been doubled from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh.

The Yatra will proceed via the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag and the shorter, steeper 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal. Infrastructure upgrades, including track widening and strengthened disaster management systems, have been completed to accommodate the expected high turnout of devotees.
