Netflix series “Chromosome 21” lead Sebastian Solorza intends to run for Chile’s national Presidential election. The 43-year-old actor with down syndrome is running to gather 35,000 signatures by August 18, 2025 to fulfil the requirement for him to run as an independent candidate.
The actor announced his plan to run as an independent candidate last month saying “We all deserve the same opportunities.” Solorza argues that his candidacy offers a middle ground between the political extremes while working towards an inclusive country.
Solorza’s platform centers on greater inclusion, improved healthcare and education and enhanced security. He hopes that his candidacy will bring greater visibility to people with down syndrome and other disabilities and help to end the existing myths and prejudices in the society.
Though the actor aims for his participation it is most unlikely that he will secure the necessary support as he has only been able to gather a little over 600 signature of the 35,000 signature.
