New Delhi, June 20: The global countdown to the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 has entered its final phase, with governments, organizations, educational institutions, and yoga enthusiasts across the world preparing for large-scale celebrations on June 21. The Ministry of AYUSH has intensified outreach activities and awareness campaigns to encourage greater participation in this year’s event. 

The theme for International Yoga Day 2026 is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlighting the role of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, mobility, and a healthier life as people grow older. The theme aims to emphasize preventive healthcare and the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle through regular yoga practice. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lead the main national celebration in Kolkata, while yoga events are being organized in numerous countries through Indian missions and local organizations. The global observance reflects yoga’s growing acceptance Global as a holistic approach to health and w Countdown ellness. 

The International Day of Yoga was established by the United Nations in 2014 following India’s proposal, receiving support from a record number of member states. Since then, the annual event has evolved into a worldwide movement promoting harmony between mind and body, as well as encouraging healthier lifestyles. 

As the countdown reaches its conclusion, millions of participants are expected to join yoga sessions, workshops, and awareness programmes across the globe, reaffirming yoga’s significance in fostering health, balance, and well-being for people of all ages.
