India and France have agreed to deepen their strategic partnership by setting ambitious new goals in trade, defence, technology, innovation, and clean energy cooperation. The decision was announced following bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron in Nice.
During the high-level meeting, both leaders unveiled a roadmap aimed at doubling bilateral trade over the next five years. They also agreed to expand collaboration in critical and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, semiconductors, and digital infrastructure. Defence cooperation featured prominently in the discussions. India and France pledged to enhance joint research, development, and production of advanced defence systems, reinforcing their long-standing military partnership. two nations also discussed strengthening maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.The leaders emphasized the importance of cooperation in clean energy, climate action, and civil nuclear technology.
Both countries committed to accelerating efforts towards sustainable development and achieving global climate goals. A major highlight of the visit was the launch of the Bharat Innovates 2026 initiative, designed to foster collaboration between startups, researchers, and entrepreneurs from both nations.
