Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing in New Delhi on June 1, 2026, marking the Myanmar leader’s first official visit to India since assuming the presidency. The meeting focused on border security, regional stability, connectivity projects, trade, and cooperation against cybercrime and human trafficking.
During the discussions, PM Modi expressed concern over the activities of armed groups operating near the India-Myanmar border and the impact of Myanmar’s internal conflict on Indian border communities. He also emphasized the need to protect Indian citizens living in border regions and called for stronger cooperation on managing refugee-related challenges.
Both leaders agreed to deepen collaboration in trade, investment, infrastructure development, connectivity projects, security cooperation, and border management. Myanmar assured India that it would work closely to address New Delhi’s security concerns and enhance coordination aIong the shared frontier.
India reiterated its commitment to supporting Myanmar as a trusted neighbor under its “Neighborhood First” and “Act East” policies. The talks also covered efforts to combat cyber scam networks and human trafficking, issues that have affected citizens across the region.
The visit is viewed as strategically important for both countries, as India seeks greater regional connectivity and stability while maintaining engagement with Myanmar despite international criticism of its military-backed government.
