West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday said he wants a “Falta-like margin” for the BJP in the upcoming bypoll in Nandigram after the party’s massive victory in the Falta Assembly re-poll.
Addressing supporters during his first visit to Nandigram as Chief Minister, Adhikari asked party workers and residents whether they could deliver a result similar to Falta, where the BJP secured a landslide win by over one lakh votes. The statement came after BJP candidate Debangshu Panda swept the Falta re-poll, strengthening the party’s position in the state Assembly.
Adhikari, who recently chose to retain the Bhabanipur Assembly seat and resigned from Nandigram, assured supporters that his connection with the constituency remains intact despite vacating the seat. He described Nandigram as his “political home turf” and said he would continue working closely with the people of the area.
The BJP’s emphatic Falta victory has become a major political talking point in West Bengal. Party leaders have projected the result as a sign of growing support for the BJP after it formed its first government in the state. Adhikari’s “Falta m remark is being seen as an attempt to energise B dres ahead of the crucial Nandigram by-election.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress has questioned the fairness of the Falta re-poll process and raised concerns over alleged irregularities during counting and campaigning. Senior TMC leaders claimed the Election Commission failed to act on complaints from party workers during the repoll
