In a major anti-drug operation, police from English Bazar police station arrested four alleged drug traffickers and seized nearly 700 grams of brown sugar from their possession. The raid was carried out on the basis of a secret tip-off regarding illegal narcotics activities in the area.
According to police sources, officers had been keeping a close watch on suspected drug trafficking operations for several days. Acting on specific information, a police team conducted a raid and intercepted the accused. During the search operation, packets containing brown sugar were recovered from them. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is believed to be worth several lakh rupees. Police have registered a case against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The four arrested persons were produced before the Malda district court on Monday.
Investigators are now questioning the accused to identify other members of the trafficking network and trace the source of the drugs.Police suspect that the narcotics were intended for distribution in different parts of the district. The incident has created concern among local residents, while police officials stated that anti-drug drives would continue more aggressively in the coming days to curb the spread of narcotics in the region.
