Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday attended the “SomnathAmritMahotsav” celebrations in Gujarat, commemorating 75 years of the reconstruction of the historic Somnath Temple. Addressing devotees and dignitaries at the temple complex, Modi described Somnath as a timeless symbol of Bharat’s resilience, unity, and civilisational strength.

The Prime Minister said the temple stands as proof that India has repeatedly risen stronger despite centuries of invasions and destruction. Referring to the reconstruction of Somnath after Independence, he said the effort reflected the confidence and cultural spirit of a newly independent India. He also paid tribute to SardarVallabhbhai Patel for leading the initiative to rebuild the temple and remembered India’s first President Rajendra Prasad, who inaugurated the reconstructed shrine in 1951.

Linking India’s cultural heritage with modern achievements, Modi referred to the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests while speaking on National Technology Day. He stated that both Somnath and Pokhran represent India’s determination, self-confidence, and ability to emerge stronger during critical moments in history. The Prime Minister also highlighted the role of India’s youth in shaping the country’s future through innovation, technology, and scientific progress.

During the celebrations, Modi performed special rituals including Maha Pooja, Panchamrit Abhishek, and Kumbhabhishek using water collected from several sacred pilgrimage sites across the country. The temple complex witnessed elaborate religious ceremonies, devotional music, and cultural performances by artists from different states.

Thousands of devotees gathered at PrabhasPatan to witness the celebrations and welcome the Prime Minister during his roadshow to the temple premises. The entire Somnath complex was illuminated and decorated for the occasion, creating a festive atmosphere.

Sharing pictures from the event on social media, Modi said every stone of Somnath reflects India’s spiritual heritage and enduring civilisation. The “SomnathAmritMahotsav” was organised to mark the 75th anniversary of the reopening of one of India’s most revered temples.
