The emergence of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has significantly reshaped Tamil Nadu’s political landscape following the 2026 Assembly elections. Reports suggest that internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) adopted during the campaign may have helped the party secure close to 52% voter preference in key segments, marking a strong debut for the newly formed party.

TVK has emerged as the single-largest party in the 234-member Assembly, winning over 100 seats but falling short of the majority mark of 118. www.ndtv.com The party is now actively seeking alliances to form the government, with the Indian National Congress already extending support, taking the tally closer to the required number.

Political analysts attribute TVK’s performance to its structured campaign strategy, which included booth-level management, digital outreach, and strict adherence to SOPs designed to maximize voter engagement. These SOPs reportedly focused on micro-targeting voters, mobilising first-time voters, and ensuring high turnout in and semi-urban constituencies.

The election results have disrupted the long-standing dominance of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), both of which saw reduced seat shares.  The fractured mandate has triggered intense political negotiations, with TVK reaching out to smaller parties and regional allies to secure a stable government.

Adding to the political drama, several constituencies witnessed extremely close contests, highlighting the effectiveness of targeted campaigning. In one case, a TVK candidate even won by a margin of a single vote, underlining how crucial grassroots mobilisation was in this election.

As discussions over government formation continue, TVK’s SOP-driven campaign model is being closely studied by political observers. If the reported 52% voter engagement translates into long-term support, it could mark a significant shift in Tamil Nadu’s electoral politics, signalling the rise of a new political force in the state.
