The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has begun work on an ambitious plan to build a 1,00,000-seater international cricket stadium in Navi Mumbai, aiming to create one of the largest sporting venues in the world.
MCA president AjinkyaNaik confirmed that initial steps, including land acquisition discussions with CIDCO, are already underway. The project has also received backing from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who has supported the idea of a world-class cricket facility in the region.
Once completed, the stadium could become the second-largest in India after the Narendra Modi Stadium. It is expected to feature modern infrastructure, improved spectator facilities, and global-standard amenities, enhancing the overall fan experience.
The proposed location near the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport adds strategic value, making it accessible for both domestic and international visitors. The project is also seen as a future-ready upgrade to the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
While construction timelines are yet to be finalised, the move reflects MCA’s vision to strengthen Mumbai’s position as a global cricketing hub.
