U.S. President Donald Trump has said that he should receive a Nobel Prize because he helped end seven wars around the world. The Nobel Prize is one of the highest awards given to people who work for peace.

Trump said that he worked to stop the war between India and Pakistan, Thailand and Cambodia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Kosovo and Serbia, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Rwanda and Congo . He explained that in many of these cases he used trade and business deals to reduce tensions. Trump said that about 60 percent of the wars were ended through trade.

Trump also said that some people told him that he could win the Nobel Prize if he managed to end the current Russia and Ukraine war. But he argued that he already deserves recognition.

Trump has even received official support. The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize thanking him for helping solve Cambodia’s border dispute with Thailand. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuhas also backed Trump by praising him for his role in a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

But not everyone agrees with Trump’s claims. Many are saying that not all the conflicts he listed were full wars. Some were only long running disputes or partial ceasefires. India has clearly denied that the U.S. played any role in its peace agreement with Pakistan saying the decision was made directly between the two countries.

Critics believe Trump is exaggerating while his supporters argue that he deserves credit for not starting new wars and for trying to make peace through talks and deals.

The Nobel Committee has not made any comment about Trump’s remarks. His statement has started new debates about his record on foreign policy and whether he truly deserves the world’s most famous peace award.
