The Union Ministry of Education has told schools linked to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), as well as Centrally-run Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), to show the non-feature film “Chalo Jeete Hain” to students. The screening period is set from September 16 to October 2.

The circular, dated September 11, was issued ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday on September 17. The ministry said the film, inspired by stories from the Prime Minister’s childhood, would be a helpful educational tool. It aims to let young learners think about themes like character, service, and responsibility.

The ministry explained that the film can act as a case study for moral reasoning and can help develop social-emotional skills such as empathy, self-reflection, and critical thinking. This initiative is part of the ministry’s broader ‘Prerana: An Experiential Learning Program.’ According to the ministry, this program, which uses methods like storytelling and audio-visual learning, has left a strong impact on its participants.

The directive to schools comes along with a nationwide special re-release of “Chalo Jeete Hain” announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. This re-release is part of the ‘Chalo Jeete Hain: Seva Ka Sanman’ initiative, which honors the silent heroes of society. The screenings are planned for thousands of schools and nearly 500 cinema halls across the country until October 2. While the directive has reached central school bodies, some school principals have pointed out that mid-term exams could make it hard to schedule screenings right away. In response, some schools have shared the film’s YouTube link with students and parents.
