Robert Redford, Hollywood icon and Oscar-winning actor, is dead aged 89. His publicist Cindi Berger stated that he died on a peaceful day in his home in Sundance, in the mountains of Utah, on September 16, 2025, and was surrounded by loved ones.
Redford was hailed as iconic performances in the following films that included Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, All the President men and out of Africa. He entered the field of directing with a tremendous success, receiving an Academy Award of Best Director in Ordinary people, and a nomination in Quiz Show. In addition to the acting career, Redford was the creator of Sundance Institute and Sundance Film Festival which promoted independent films and helped thousands of filmmakers grow. He was also an environmentalist who noted that the natural spaces should be preserved, and he also backed the climate activism.

Jane Fonda, a long time partner, expressed her sadness at losing a person who embodied the America ideals and values. Leonardo DiCaprio called him an absolute legend in reference to his contribution in the movie as well as in environmental activism. The impact that Redford had on Hollywood and the entire world culture was immense, covering more than sixty years.
Redford leaves behind his wife, Sibylle Szaggars Redford, two daughters Shauna and Amy and two sons Scott and David who had passed away before him. His publicist said that he was going to be greatly missed. The family needs to be left alone during this trying moment.
