After controversial comments of relocating Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip, US President Donald Trump has expressed wishes to physically acquire Gaza. He wishes to buy the area and rebuild it. He has also stated that the relocated Palestinians will not have any right of return.
In conversation with Fox news, the president insisted that Palestinians will have no right of return due to the fact that he will be building better housing for them. Hamas, a Palestinian armed militant group, is strictly against the notion as they emphasize that Gaza is not for sale. On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called the plan ingenious and is all for it. The United Nations has condemned Trump’s intention and called his train of thought on par with ethnic cleansing.
Most of Gaza’s population has been displaced countless times and a large part of its infrastructure destroyed. The healthcare, water, sanitation and hygiene systems have collapsed, and there stands a crippling shortage of food, fuel, medicine and shelter.
Trump intends to create a utopia for the Palestinians in countries neighbouring them namely Egypt and other such countries. The White House had previously explained that the relocation of the citizens would be temporary but Trump emphasized that the Palestinians would not be allowed to come and that they wouldn’t want to because their living situation will be far better.
