U.S. President Donald Trump has announced on Monday a major policy shift on Ukraine, promising new weapons and threatening permissions on Russian export buyers unless a peace deal is done within 50 days. This move arises from his growing frustration with Moscow’s ongoing aggression.
During a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Donald Trump has confirmed that a “full complement” of weapons, including Patriot missile systems, would arrive in Ukraine within few days. And also noted that 17 Patriot systems from another country could be deflected to the war zone.
Rutte confirmed that Germany, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Canada are all supporting Ukraine’s Military expansion.
Crucially, Trump’s threat of secondary endorsement on countries that purchase Russian exports, particularly oil, which marks a significant change in Western policy. On the other hand financial ties with Moscow have been cut largely.
Throughout ,more than three-year-old war, Western countries have cut most of their financial ties to Moscow, but avoided actions that would stop Russia from finding other buyers for its oil. That has allowed Moscow to continue earning hundreds of billions of dollars from selling oil to nations such as China and India.
Trump also stated that if a deal isn’t met within 50 days, “secondary tariffs” would be imposed at “100%”. A White House official clarified this 100% tariffs on Russian goods and secondary sanction frm other countries that keeps buying things from Russia.
Volodymyr Zelensky Ukrainian president thanked Trump for his commitment , support and to continue working together to stop the killings and establish a lasting and just peace.
