South Africa beat India by 51 runs in the second T20I at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur in New Chandigarh on Thursday. The Aiden Markram-led South Africa hence squared the five-match T20I series 1-1 after the second game.

While chasing 214, India lost openers Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and skipper Suryakumar Yadav inside just four overs and never looked in a position to challenge South Africa’s daunting target.

Gill was dismissed for a golden duck in the very first over before Abhishek was sent packing by a beautiful outswinger from Marco Jansen in the second. Suryakumar couldn’t do much either, edging a delivery behind to keeper Quinton de Kock after scoring just five. Tilak Varma showed resistance, but the lower order just crumbled against the impending pressure as India were bundled out for 162.

Earlier, invited to bat first, South Africa posted 213 for four in 20 overs courtesy of Quinton de Kock’s 90 and was aided by David Miller and Donovan Ferreira’s flourish in the slog overs.
