Prateek Yadav, the younger son of the late Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, May 13, 2026, in Lucknow. At only 38 years old, the businessman and fitness enthusiast was rushed to the Civil Hospital after a sudden health crisis but was tragically declared dead upon arrival. Prateek, who was the stepbrother of Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav and husband to BJP leader Aparna Bisht Yadav, was known for maintaining a low profile in active politics compared to his family members.
The medical investigation following his death provided clarity on the sudden nature of his passing. A post-mortem examination conducted at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) identified the cause of death as cardiorespiratory collapse caused by a massive pulmonary thromboembolism. Doctors explained that a large blood clot had blocked the arteries in his lungs, leading to a fatal failure of his heart and respiratory system. It was revealed that Prateek had been undergoing treatment for high blood pressure and had recently undergone surgery on his left leg, which may have contributed to the complications.
The news of his death sparked an outpouring of grief across the political spectrum of Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the family to offer his condolences, describing the loss as extremely heartbreaking, while Akhilesh Yadav expressed deep sorrow for the loss of his brother. Out of respect for the family, major political parties in the state canceled their scheduled programs. Prateek’s final rites were scheduled for Thursday, May 14, in Lucknow, marking a somber moment for one of the state’s most prominent political families.
