PM Modi to visit Japan from 29th August to 30th August 2025 for 15th India-Japan annual summit. This visit is a part of 4 day trip and he will also be visiting Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in India.
In the summit he will be meeting Japan PM Shigeru Ishibu to discuss “Special Strategic and Global Partnership” and focus bilateral cooperation. The visit is expected to deepen defence and security cooperation including naval exercise and naval maintenance. The Indian PM will also be attending a business leaders’ forum where he will meet top executives from Japanese and Indian industries to boost cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, semiconductors and other emerging technologies and critical mineral. Discussions will cover technological collaboration, including new initiatives in next-generation mobility. The discussion may also involve deal for more advanced and quake safe bullet train. The Indian PM also has plans to engage with state and regional representative from Japanese prefectures and Indian states increase cooperation between India’s sub-national entities and Japan’s regions.
A big focus will be on keeping peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, including how the two countries can work together with their Quad partners the US and Australia alongside Japan.
This visit was an important step for both nation, as both consider their partnership as a cornerstone of peace and stability in Indo-pacific region. It’s also PM Modi’s first solo visit to Japan in seven years. After wrapping up in Japan, the Prime Minister will be heading to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
