Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a sharp political attack on the state government while addressing a massive rally organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. With elections approaching in West Bengal, the Prime Minister urged people to support development-oriented politics and accused the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of failing to deliver good governance and law and order in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Modi said the people of Bengal were seeking progress, transparency and opportunities for the youth.
“The voice of Bengal is becoming stronger. The people want progress and a government that works for everyone,” the Prime Minister said.
He also stressed the importance of development and honest governance for the future of the state.
“The dreams of Bengal’s youth must be fulfilled through development, innovation and honest governance,” he added.
During his visit, the Prime Minister also announced and inaugurated development projects worth nearly ₹18,000 crore for the state. The projects focus on improving infrastructure, connectivity and public welfare, which he said would help create jobs and strengthen the state’s economy.
The rally at the Brigade Parade Ground drew thousands of supporters from different districts across West Bengal. Many people travelled overnight by trains, buses and other transport to attend the event. By afternoon, the vast ground was filled with party flags, slogans and enthusiastic supporters listening to speeches by party leaders.
Extensive security arrangements were made for the high-profile event. Thousands of police personnel were deployed across central Kolkata, while traffic restrictions were imposed on several major roads to manage the large influx of people heading toward the venue.
Ahead of the rally, tensions were reported in parts of the city where supporters of the BJP and the ruling TMC allegedly clashed. Police intervened quickly to control the situation and prevent further escalation.
Political observers described the rally as one of the BJP’s biggest political mobilizations in West Bengal in recent months. The large turnout and strong speeches highlighted the growing intensity of political competition in the state as parties prepare for upcoming elections.
