Kejriwal & Tejashwi campaigns for Mamata

Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday (April 26, 2026) joined the Trinamool Congress campaign in West Bengal, addressing three election rallies—two in Kolkata and one in Howrah.

His visit comes during the last leg of poll campaign in the State. Campaigning for the second phase of the Assembly elections will conclude at 6 p.m. on Monday (April 27). A few days ago, the AAP suffered a major setback when seven of its 10 MPs crossed over to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking at a public meeting in Beleghata in support of Trinamool candidate Kunal Ghosh, Mr. Kejriwal accused the BJP of deploying “all the Army and central forces” in the State as if “the people here are all terrorists”. “This is an attack on Bengal, on Bengali culture and asmita. You will have to reply to this,” he said.

Mr. Kejriwal described the West Bengal Assembly election as a fight to save “the democracy” in the country and praised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while urging people to vote for the Trinamool Congress. He alleged that the BJP “captured” Delhi by framing him in false corruption cases, even though courts had found him innocent.

“Today, they (BJP) have destroyed all the good work we did in Delhi. We built good schools, but they shut them. We built mohalla clinics and made bus travel free for women, but they stopped that. We made electricity free, and they are going to stop that, too. They will stop all the work Didi has done here if you accidentally vote for them,” he said.

Along with Mr. Kejriwal, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejaswi Yadav also campaigned for the Trinamool Congress. Speaking at a public rally at Jorasanko in Kolkata, Mr. Yadav said Ms. Banerjee was “fighting like a tigress”.

“The Prime Minister, the Home Minister, all BJP Chief Ministers, the ED, the CBI and also ‘godi media’ (partisan media) are all against Mamata Didi, but she is fighting like a tigress, and Modi ji will not have his way in West Bengal,” the RJD leader said.

While Mr. Kejriwal and Mr. Yadav are campaigning in the State in support of the Trinamool Congress, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched scathing attacks on the State government and Ms. Banerjee. Mr. Gandhi, who has held multiple public rallies, accused the Trinamool Congress leadership of paving the way for the BJP in West Bengal.

On Saturday (April 25, 2026), Mr. Gandhi accused both the BJP and the Trinamool of corruption and misrule. The Congress is contesting all 294 Assembly seats in the State.

Earlier, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader and Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemanta Soren had also campaigned for the Trinamool Congress in tribal constituencies.

Polling for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly election, covering 142 seats, will be held on April 29. The votes will be counted on May 4.
