Former Kolkata Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh, Daughter Booked in Alleged Property Grab Case

Former Kolkata deputy mayor and Trinamool Congress leader Atin Ghosh, along with his daughter and son-in-law, has been booked by police in connection with an alleged property dispute involving a three-storey house and adjoining land valued at around ₹4 crore in eastern Kolkata.

The case was registered following a complaint by a businesswoman, who alleged that she was forced to transfer her property at a price much lower than its market value. The complaint relates to a house and land in the PragatiMaidan area of Kolkata, which the woman claimed she inherited from her father through a will.

According to the complaint, the property was allegedly taken over after pressure was applied on her to sign documents related to the transfer. She alleged that an advance payment of ₹50 lakh was deposited into her bank account, which she later attempted to return. The complainant accused Atin Ghosh and his family members of intimidation, cheating, conspiracy and illegal occupation of the property.

Police have registered an FIR and are examining documents submitted by the complainant. Statements of all parties involved are expected to be recorded as part of the investigation.

Atin Ghosh and his daughter have denied the allegations, calling the charges baseless. Ghosh’s daughter said the claims were false and malicious and indicated that legal steps may be taken against those making such accusations.

The case has drawn attention amid growing concerns over property disputes and allegations of illegal land transfers in Kolkata. Authorities have been looking into several complaints involving disputed ownership, forged documents and alleged coercive property deals in the city.

The police investigation into the matter is currently underway, and further action will depend on the findings from the verification of documents and statements recorded during the probe.
