Delhi Court Dismisses CJP Legal Head Ratna Singh’s Plea Alleging ‘Wrongful Confinement’ by Police: CJM Cites Procedural Defects and Unnamed Officers Amid Citywide Crackdown

Pabitra Banerjee : In a major legal setback for the Cockroach Janta Party, a Delhi court on Saturday dismissed a petition filed by the head of its legal wing, Ratna Singh, alleging that she was “wrongfully confined” by police personnel outside her Jangpura residence.
The legal challenge came amid an extensive police crackdown in the national capital designed to thwart a youth protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged large-scale deletions of names from electoral rolls. Appearing before Chief Judicial Magistrate Abhinav Pandey at Saket Court, the petitioner claimed law enforcement officials surrounded her vehicle and prevented her movement without issuing any formal written authorization, citing orders from senior officials. However, the court dismissed the plea seeking an FIR against the officers, citing procedural defects and lack of specific details.
The judicial order unfolded against the backdrop of a massive security deployment across Delhi, where law enforcement agencies executed widespread preventive detentions to block unauthorized political gatherings near Jantar Mantar. While authorities defended the measures as routine precautions to maintain order and prevent public disruption, the ruling leaves the party confronting both aggressive physical enforcement on the streets and procedural hurdles in court.
