After the success of Operation Sindoor, The government of India is now focused on pushing weapons manufacturing across India, strengthening the concept of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” providing self-reliance. Government has given green signal to Emergency Procurement (EP) to contracts worth Rs 400 billion.
The government has reached out multiple private defence manufacturing companies for active participation in manufacturing items like artillery guns, missiles, precision-guided ammunitions, and military-grade drones. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) recently approved 13 contracts under EP worth Rs 19.8 billion. “With increasing participation of the private sector, our responsibility is no longer that of a controller, but of a facilitator” , “we must prepare for uncertainty. Sudden developments can force a complete shift in our financial and operational posture” said the Defence Ministry.
This process includes leveraging the private defence manufacturing, helping in keeping the main players in the limelight for future orders, the government is also helping by taking provisions, such as deemed licence that helps in bypassing long paperwork and long-waiting approvals. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 proposals worth Rs 1.05 trillion. Companies like ,Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has received orders worth Rs45.5 billion. The Defence Minister said that, with the Prime Minister’s main focus on “Atmanirbharata in Defence”, Indian industries should be prepared for the global demand shift and play a bigger role in weapon export and innovation, strengthening National Security and boost the economy.
