CM composes song to celebrate 100 years of a north Kolkata puja

West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again demonstrated her artistic talent by composing the lyrics for the theme song of the Tala Prattoy Durga Puja committee in Kolkata. The committee, which is marking its centenary year, was excited to have Banerjee create the song for their ‘Bij Angan’ (seeds in the courtyard) concept. The song was skillfully performed by State Minister Indranil Sen, who also unveiled the music video on Wednesday. 

The ‘Bij Angan’ theme pays homage to the resilient spirit of Durga Puja and the rich cultural heritage of Bengal. Dhrubajyoti Bose Suvo, a spokesperson for the organisers, explained that the seeds of life symbolize nature and the mother goddess, themes that will be incorporated into the designs, installations, and idol of the Puja pandal. This year’s festivities represent a major milestone for the Tala Prattoy Durga Puja committee, which has received numerous accolades in the past. 

Banerjee’s role in composing theme songs for puja committees is well-established, as she has been writing for various organisers annually. Her contributions to West Bengal’s cultural scene are significant, and her lyrics frequently encapsulate the spirit of the celebration. The launch event for the music video was a grand occasion, with Sen’s performance breathing life into the song. 

The centenary celebration of the Tala  Durga Puja committee highlights the lasting appeal of Durga Puja in Bengal. The committee’s commitment to preserving the festival’s cultural heritage while also embracing innovation and
