In a major push toward infrastructure development and law enforcement modernization, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that 16,000 trained constables will soon be inducted into active service.
Speaking at the state secretariat, Nabanna, the Chief Minister revealed that thousands of trained personnel had been left waiting under the previous administration. “Around 16,000 constables are currently sitting idle after completing their training. Arrangements are being made to actively induct them into service very soon,” Adhikari stated, emphasizing his government’s commitment to job creation and public safety.
The announcement came during a high-profile event where the West Bengal Police signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) to modernize the state’s security apparatus. The agreement, signed by RRU Pro-Vice Chancellor Kalpesh H. Wandrar and State Police Director General Siddhinath Gupta, aims to equip both the West Bengal and Kolkata Police forces with specialized training to tackle modern law enforcement challenges in the digital age.
Taking a swipe at the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, Chief Minister Adhikari noted that a proposal to partner with the university had originally been floated in late 2025 but was ignored by the prior administration. “The previous government did not give this matter any importance. We have swiftly implemented it because the skills of our police force have not been properly utilized in recent years,” Adhikari remarked.
The Rashtriya Raksha University, which operates under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, will provide advanced technological support, academic programming, and cyber defense training. In tandem with the induction of the 16,000 constables, the Chief Minister also announced the rollout of multiple new specialized training courses to elevate professionalism within the ranks.
This sweeping recruitment and modernization drive marks a decisive shift for the state’s security infrastructure, signaling the new administration’s focus on technological integration and rapid deployment of trained law enforcement personnel.
